Krabi to Bangkok
Nov. 23rd.
Today we headed back to Bangkok but luckily our flight did not leave until late afternoon. That gave us plenty of time for an elephant ride and a little more beach time. Elizabeth, Gioia and Nick opted for a bit more beach time, so Carol Lee, Anna, Molly and I went to meet the pachyderms.
If you have never ridden an elephant, you should do so. It is not necessarily the most comfortable ride, but possible the most sure-footed. We were amazed at how gently they walked the trails and never stepped in the deposits of the elephant in front of them. And they had plenty of opportunity to do so.
Anna and Molly rode the lead elephant, which was a bull and had pretty sizeable tusks. The trek went through a secondary-growth forest, up a series of hills that gave an good view of the ocean, and then back through a rubber plantation where they were tapping rubber trees. The ride lasted about an hour and was very relaxing.
Back at the Royal Lanta we checked out of our rooms, had one last lunch and walk on the beach, and caught our shuttle back to the airport. We arrived at the airport with plenty of time to spare, plus our flight was late. This is in stark contrast to most of our other flights on this trip where we were hustling to make them and negotiating with flight attendants to let us on and off planes first. We arrived back in Bangkok safe and sound and hungry. The kids had pizza at the apartment, while the adults went out to one of our local restaurants where we had possibly the hottest curr
y we have ever eaten, or tried to eat I should say. The rest of the meal was quite good, but our mouths are still on fire.
Well, we had a great visit with our friends Carol Lee and Molly. We are so happy they were able to come visit us. They left Bangkok early on the 24th and arrived in Oregon an hour later. Hopefully their jet lag wasn't too bad.
